My 10-year positive experience with Herb Chambers came to an end today. During this time, I was a loyal customer, referring many friends to purchase vehicles from this dealership due to the excellent sales team and maintenance services. Unfortunately, all the goodwill I had built over the years was undermined by Sam, a member of the finance team.

I first met Sam in 2022 when I was purchasing my second Mini. During the financing process, he was insistent on selling various coverage options and insurance products. I politely declined, as I did not find them necessary. At that point, his attitude noticeably shifted—his tone became condescending, as if he viewed me as being frugal. To change the dynamic, I mentioned that the car I was purchasing was simply for work purposes and that I owned a Q8. His tone quickly shifted back to being more respectful. The interaction felt unprofessional, but I decided to overlook it at the time.

Three months later, when my tire needed replacement, the service team recommended that I purchase the wheel and tire coverage. I met with Sam again, and this time, he was very accommodating since I agreed to purchase the coverage. I signed a 4-year contract electronically. I specifically asked if the coverage was transferable or refundable if I sold the car before the term ended, and he assured me it was. The process seemed straightforward, with no hidden conditions. He handed me a copy of the contract, including the policy number, though it lacked a signature since I signed electronically on the iPad.

Two years later, I traded the car for a Mini EV and returned to Sam to cancel the coverage, as he had mentioned I could do. After waiting for more than 30 minutes while he casually chatted with colleagues, my wife intervened, seeking assistance from another staff member. Sam then made a dismissive comment to his colleague, questioning her whereabouts, seemingly unaware that I was present and that we had arrived together.

When he finally addressed us, I informed him of my intention to cancel the policy since it could not be transferred to my new Mini. His first question was, "Where did you get this coverage?" to which I replied, "Here, with you." His next question further escalated the situation, asking why there was no signature on the contract. I reminded him that I had signed electronically and that I had already made two claims. He proceeded to check his system and claimed he found no record of the policy. I showed him my receipt, and he asked me to follow up the next week.

As I feared, Sam later informed me that the company could not refund any money because my claims had exceeded the policy's limit, despite his previous assurances that the policy had no limits, was transferable, and could be canceled. It became clear that there were hidden terms that were not disclosed when I purchased the coverage. I felt deceived and as though Sam had made the dealership appear untrustworthy and unprofessional—more like a local dealership than the reputable business I had known.

In hindsight, I recognize my mistake in not thoroughly reviewing the details before signing and trusting Sam’s verbal assurances. I requested that he email me all the details explaining why a refund was not possible, but I have yet to receive anything, despite his claim that he was sending it.

Doing business is built on trust and loyalty, and both were compromised in this experience. I would find it difficult to continue doing business with Herb Chambers if someone like Sam remains on your team.

I purchased my car in October, and have visited the Mini Cooper Boston Service Center quite a few times. I couldn’t be happier with the service I receive every visit. Theo and Moraldo, along with the entire team, have been exceptional!

As a first-time car owner, I had many questions and concerns, but they have always taken care of my needs with great patience. Every visit, they engage with me warmly, asking how I am and ensuring that all my questions are answered. They even take time to converse with me making me feel right at home. I can trust that they are looking out for me and they are always extremely honest with me. Their customer service is truly outstanding, and I’m thrilled to have such a reliable and friendly team taking care of my car.
