I can't say enough good things about Max and his shop. I was all packed up and ready to have a great four day trip up to Green Bank and then back down through Cass and along the Greenbrier. As we crossed the bridge in Anthony and started to climb I heard the worst crunching sound I've ever heard from a bike. I looked down to find my rear derailleur snapped in two and wrapped in the top of my chain. What could I do? Shorten the chain and try to ride single speed for four days? Cancel my trip and drive a support car for the rest of the guys?

As we sat by the river discouraged with no cell service, a generous couple offered a ride back into town for me and my bike. On the way in I called Max and explained the problem. He confidently said he could sort it out. From the time we pulled into his parking lot it was less than three minutes and he had my bike taken apart on the stand. A quick alignment and a new derailleur, chain, and a tire (mine was looking rough) took 20 minutes and cost me less than half what I was expecting. He got it fixed and back on the trail in no time. Over the next four days I put that drivetrain through some of the worst abuse I've ever put a bike through and it performed like a champ. Mud, sticks, rocks, hills, creeks. Nothing could stop it.

Max Hammer is friendly and knowledgeable, even on a quick phone call, which certainly can't be said of all bike shop folks. His shop is well-stocked, and he's a reliable mechanic. He was graciously accommodating despite my odd questions and my somewhat bad habit of being hands-on around bike tools... Even got me some measurements that I hadn't expected at all when I said I was hoping to get my stack and reach to aid in purchasing a new bike down the road. Highly recommend, best bike shop in a 45+mi radius from Hillsboro.

This bike shop is a gem! If you are in the area, I would highly recommend a visit. Max Hammer (owner) is awesome. A group of us were riding the Greenbrier Trail on 10/12 and we had a tire problem with a bike. Max opened his shop early for us, fixed the bike and got us on our way with minimal delay.

Excellent, knowledgeable and friendly service. After day 1 of Bike Virginia, wife's Giant rear disk brakes started failing due to all the downhills. We still had 2 more days of riding. Max fixed the problem in short order, got her back out on the road and also adjusted the rear derailleur. He is a very skilled mechanic and should probably charge a higher hourly rate!

A party of four, we rented two cruisers and two e-bikes for a ride on the Greenbrier River Trail. Everything went smoothly. Max worked with us patiently to explain the e-bikes to our novice riders. The shuttle trips could not have been smoother. They both bent over backwards to make our stop in White Sulphur Springs enjoyable. If biking is in your future, you can't go wrong going with Hammer Cycles.

From Christian: Max looked over my mountain bike and took care of it. When I picked my bike up he took his time to show me how the gears work and how to ride in certain terrains. He is a very nice person and overall I think this place is amazing. I even got gloves and he helped me get the perfect size or fit. I'm happy and my mother is bringing my other bike back here to have it looked at and repaired. I'm excited because it was my grandpa's bike and he's in heaven now. I know that Max will take really good care of my other bike and help me with questions on how to use that one too. Thank you for helping me. Christian

I got stranded in White Sulphur Springs after my flight was canceled and I chose to make the best of it by renting a mountain bike from Hammer cycles to see the sights and enjoy the outdoors. Max got me set up on a bike that fit well, had a helmet, and gave me advice about different places to ride. I had a great 9.5 mile ride around the Greenbrier trails and in town. Well worth the money! Great service.
